As directed by the School Board, the facilities name committee met on February 5, 2021 to discuss naming the Weight Room on Milton High School’s campus after Coach Mike McMillion.

The committee was comprised of the following:

 ·         Jo Lynn Wiley, SRPE Representative

·         Mike Thorpe, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction

·         Chafan Marsh, Community Representative

·         Joey Harrell, Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services/Chair

·         Floyd Smith, Director of Middle Schools

·         Linda Sanborn, School Board Member (not-voting)

After hearing from Principal Tim Short, family members and the public, the committee unanimously approved to name the Weight Room after Coach McMillion.

Please find the attached comments from the McMillion Family.  Words used to describe Coach McMillion include ‘Mentor’, ‘Role Model’, and ‘Father-Figure’. 

It is with a great deal of pleasure that the Facility Names Committee recommends that the Weight Room at Milton High School be named, “Mike ‘Coach Mac’ McMillion Fieldhouse”.
