In 2019, our board approved our participation in a USDOE grant provided to FSU to research the impact of Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) on student performance. CGI guides teachers to lead math instruction through a series of guiding questions and discussions that take students from what they know to where they need to be. The method has shown strong results in other Florida districts and has been popular with SRC teachers.
Part of the research process involves FSU researchers observing our teachers as they practice their CGI skills so they can gauge the efficacy of their trainings and view students response to the technique in person. Due to Covid-19, this is not possible, so FSU is requesting to be allowed to have teachers and students opt-in to videoing lessons for FSU researchers to view.
Attached you'll find a description of the amendment to allow for optional video observation as well as communications FSU plans to use with teachers and parents if allowed.
